The Goldsmiths’ Fair selling exhibition takes place this year 26 September to 9 October in the lavishly decorated Goldsmiths’ Hall near St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
There will be 90 exhibitors for each of the two weeks, 107 jewellers and 61 silversmiths (11 exhibitors take part in both weeks). Each piece on sale is hand-made by dedicated craftsmen in small workshops around the country and collectively the fair represents months of intense skill and artistry.
The designers include 10 recent graduates who are given free stands by the Company to help them in the early days of their careers. All the designer-makers are present at the fair and visitors can buy directly from them or commission something unique.
Since 1300 the Goldsmiths’ Company has been responsible for testing the quality of gold, silver and, from 1975, platinum articles. The Company has been on the same site since 1339.
The Goldsmiths’ Fair runs from 26 September to 2 October and from 4 October to 9 October, 11am–7pm (to 6pm Sat and Sun). Entrance is by catalogue purchasable on the door, £7 for one week, £12 for two weeks.
